Success: Leave the Past on the Mat

I was never a wrestler in school, but I appreciate the athleticism, skill and the mental toughness of the sport (and I’m not talking Hulk Hogan and WWF Smackdown). When a wrestler ends his last match of his career, he leaves his shoes on the mat where he just finished wrestling.
I love this. It is so metaphorical. When you finish something and it’s time to move on, you have to leave it behind you; no looking back.
What a statement ... I am not coming back, it’s over, I gave it my all and I am moving on (of course, you need
to buy a new pair of shoes, but that’s a different story). So often, we see athletes -- especially star football quarterbacks -- who never can't seem to leave the sport when it is time. It's hard to leave what you love but you have to know when it's time to leave your shoes on the mat.
Don't hold onto the 'glory days' of the past. Move on to new adventures. In order for there to be a future, you have to turn away from the past and move on. When you hold onto the past you live with your back to the future. Turn around, leave your shoes on the mat and succeed in the next phase of life.
