Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “As a cure for worrying, work is better than whiskey.” Do you realize that 99% of all we worry about never comes to pass. Do you also realize that 89.3%  of all authors make up the statistics to make their point. (I’ll wait for those of you who didn’t catch that!) … But it’s true, so much of what we worry about never happens, yet we live through the horror and anxieties of these situations we play over and over again in our minds. What does worrying do? Does it solve anything? Does it help anything? Never! In fact, it makes things worse. I will never forget during college, my first final exam. I told myself, I was going to stay up all night, studying for the test. I was so nervous about the test and was afraid I was going to fail. Everyone told me that now that I was in college I was
going to have to “pull all nighters." Like most of us, I don’t function well without sleep. Did you know that sleep-deprivation was a common technique used during WWII to interrogate prisoners of war for information because they become disoriented and confused. Well, after spending the whole night trying to stay awake. I must have drunk two pots of coffee. In fact, at one point when I ran out of coffee I actually went to grocery store to buy more. I took valuable study time to drive to go get COFFEE! Not only did I end up falling asleep, but I was late to the exam and I had the worst case of caffeine jitters. I looked like a prisoner of war when I left the exam. I did so badly on that exam because I spent more time worrying than working and studying, which would have made it better. Coffee alone never helped anybody pass a test or pay their bills or save their marriage. And neither has worrying. Work.
