This poem is dedicated to everyone who has been abused by a spouse.
I remember when you told me daily that you loved me
I remember when you showed me just how much you cared.
You whispered sweet nothing in my ear
And held my hand when we walked together
In everything we shared.
You kissed my lips, you caressed my face
You gave me your children; you called me your saving grace.
When I was sad you comforted me
You told me jokes to make me laugh.
You were my rock, my shelter in any storm
I felt secure and safe in your arms.
The years have gone by,
Time has brought many changes,
My hair is white as snow,
And my eyes don't see that clear any more
My skin is wrinkled, and my movements seems a little slower
Yet my love for you remains the same as always.
Although you too have changed, I still love you the same
How could a love so strong, went so wrong
That now you have become the one who abuses me.
Your harsh words and striking blows
Tells me I am not welcome by you anymore
Have I become such a bother that I would be better off dead?
What have I done, to make me become, an object to be abused
Oh how I wish that I could have stopped the aging process
Oh how I wished we had never grown old
I wish I never had to wear diapers
Or depend on others.
Oh how I wish that no one ever abused you,
Because you are the love of my life
Till death my love for you remains the same.
I am sorry that your love for me was conditional
I am sorry about your misconception on how life should be
That have made you into the person you have become
My abuser
Some day soon I will be free
You will go on in your misery
Who will you abuse then?
There will never be another me.
