The person who coined the phrases that say that no man or woman is an island and that no man or woman stands alone, put into words one of the great truths of Mother Nature. Ask yourself this question ... Could I really live without another human being?

Did you answer yes? What would you do during life’s extreme moments ... What if you were in need of medical assistance? What if your house was on fire? I think you get the picture.

Even our daily needs such as food, clothing and shelter somehow involve bringing other human beings into our lives.

Now think about what it must be like to be a person who has human contact on a daily basis. Happiness, sadness, creativity, depression, companionship, arguments, acceptance, disagreements, love, anger, caring, pain, growth, experiences, life, legacy are all felt more deeply when others are around to share the experience.

People who understand their need for other people are the luckiest people in the world. When people work together for a cause they will find themselves thinking alike. They feel shared feelings of accomplishment and disappointment, and find within themselves an even greater energy to overcome obstacles and succeed.

Whether it is working together as a team, a family, or a country, people who work together usually find the experience of accomplishment with others to be both exciting and rewarding.

I remember a situation in my own life when I had an idea that I kept isolated for eleven years. When the idea became so overwhelming that I finally shared it with family members, friends, and anyone who would listen to me talk, it began to get a life of its own. Not long after that my daughter suggested that I take that idea out of my head and put it in writing.

Doing that gave it life. Months went by and I kept the written and mental version of that idea with me wherever I went. Then one day I met a beautiful young lady who, after reading my written idea, thought it should be promoted. Today that single idea is a proposal that could become one of the laws of the state in which I live.

When I kept my idea silent I was an island with much to offer. But I could not promote or enjoy all the great benefits of my idea until I let others in on the concept. Reaching out created an opportunity for change that will ultimately benefit mankind for years to come.

In so many different areas of life the real value of people working together can be seen on a daily basis. Working together in an unselfish way will only build character and inner strength. Lovers love more when working together is a part of their plan. Marriages succeed when working together as a couple is integrated into fiber of the marriage. Even statistics prove that there is a much higher rate of success for any group of people who work together toward a desired goal.

We are all part of the human race, which means we have more in common than we sometimes admit. Getting to know another human being helps us to know ourselves.

Make a commitment to yourself to look for a reason you can work on with others and experience the sweet taste of success that can only come from working together.
