Whether you're into fitness or simply a student of success, the question of who is the best, the world's greatest athlete is an interesting thought to ponder. What criteria define greatness? I suppose there could be many? How do we judge this? Is it simply a measure of fitness?

Of course that begs the question, who is fit, really. Most of us would think of Lance Armstrong, Labraun James and others as great athletes. But while these athletes are gifted in certain areas, they are not about total body fitness. Don't get me wrong ... I'm not saying that they aren't incredible at what they do. The reality is that they are more fit than most of us could even hope for.

But despite their skill, I'm looking for an athlete that has such optimal balance in all fitness areas that he or she could most certainly keep up with any athlete in their sport of choice.

Why? CrossFit trainer. Fitness is it for me.

I want total performance. I want to know the athlete who perfoms any and every task well, regardless of conditions or circumstances. In my reserch I stumbled upon an Olympic athlete who does just that. This athlete participates in what is know as a decathalon. These athletes seem to be the most balanced. Being a CrossFit instuctor I enjoyed the simularities between the way these athletes train and how CrossFitters train.

In a recent article, the Wall Street Journal said much the same, I think for any athlete to be the best, they must succeed well at any task that is given to them. These athletes seem to do just that, and similarly, Crossfit seems to do just that. So ask yourself, what is fitness?
